I trembled at the sight of the waves that broke themselves against the mountains in an attempt to pull the peaks out to sea. Even while perched atop the earthen spire I tasted salt from the ocean’s spray. The gardens carved out of stone just beneath the cliff’s edge flooded with life from below. I could smell the smoke of a thousand fires from my oasis, though heard no screams. It was then I knew why the water fought so hard to break through.
