"What does inevitable mean to you? I’ve always found it a bit nihilistic. As though one is throwing up their hands in response to the chaos that comes with the natural order of things."

For me, I think "inevitable" means throwing up one's hands at an obvious consequence of their actions, rather than change course or admit the likelihood of said consequence. While we never have every element under our control at any given time, there the "those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it" concept, which carries a lot of truth. If you close your eyes tight and just do whatever you want regardless of learned outcomes, that's "inevitability". We COULD change course, but if we don't, then we can't say the results weren't inevitable.
